Professor Emeritus Jan Scheffel joins Novatron Fusion Group
Novatron Fusion Group AB extends a warm welcome to Jan Scheffel who has decided to join the NOVATRON project part-time. Jan is Professor Emeritus in Theoretical Fusion Plasma Physics at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden.
Jan’s professional focus is on finding computational solutions to the very difficult task of modelling plasma behaviour. For the last couple of years Jan has become an expert in using a generalized weighted residual method (GWRM) to model how plasma behaves in a hydromagnetic field.
One of Jan’s tasks here at Novatron will be to help construct good computational models for the NOVATRON reactor design. These models can then be used to improve our plasma simulations, and will be of great assistance when compared to actual physical experiments taking place in the NOVATRON reactor.
So if you happen to have a nonlinear partial differential equation that’s giving you trouble, then Jan is the guy to talk to!
A teacher at heart
In addition to being one of the foremost experts in the field of plasma physics, Jan is also a well-liked teacher and a great mentor to the doctorates at KTH. He has a keen interest in efficient educational methodology and pedagogy, and has a way of explaining even the most technical concepts so that everyone understands. He also participates in the public fusion energy debate with several opinion pieces and articles in newspapers and magazines.
